GAMEVAL2 (PID2020-119620RB-I00), Improving the Lifecycle of Serious Games to Address Societal Problems: Authoring, Validation and Deployment, is a project that aims to is to improve the complete lifecycle of serious games, including authoring, scientific evaluation of their effectiveness, and deployment in real environments, such as educational centers. The serious games developed will have, as their main objective, that of addressing social challenges, such as improving awareness of gender inequalities. A specific game will be developed to address this particular problem, and used to validate several other aspects of the project (e.g. authoring, analytics). The goals of this project are based on those of its predecessor GAMEVAL.
Based on this experience, we intend to improve aspects of authorship by integrating new technologies (e.g., geopositioning, augmented reality) and new capabilities (e.g., analytics, standards support) that allow authoring and exploitation of serious games to be greatly simplified. These new features increase potential application scenarios while improving aspects of systematic validation and large-scale application. Better analytics provide evidence of what actually happens when a game is deployed, improving both the design of the game and the assessment of its effect on students.
